Our vision at the Mid-Columbia Children's Museum is to bring a STEM/STEAM centered children's museum to the Tri-Cities, WA community. We will be a vibrant and innovative community hub that inspires curiosity and lifelong learning for all children and their families. We aim to collaborate with our diverse community to highlight the unique industries and opportunities in our region. Our intention is to cultivate a generation of engaged and curious critical thinkers who are empowered to create a better future for themselves and their communities.
At the Mid-Columbia Children's Museum it is our mission to provide an inclusive, fun, and immersive space for children and families to freely explore, discover and learn, while fostering accessibility and community collaboration. We strive to be a regional resource that promotes STEM/STEAM learning, family engagement and supports the development of lifelong learners who are curious, confident, and contributing members of society.
Mid-Columbia Children’s Museum (MCCM) is a grassroots effort to build a children’s museum for the families of the Tri-Cities and Southeastern Washington / Northeastern Oregon communities.
In the winter of 2022, a group of Tri-City parents connected on social media over their desire to see more engaging and educational experiences for kids in the Tri-Cities. After organizing a community meeting (and moving locations to provide more space to meet the interest), the Founding Task Force for the Mid-Columbia Children’s Museum was formed.
The Founding Task Force is made up of professionals (who are also parents and grandparents) who have committed to working together to craft a path forward for a permanent and sustainable children’s museum.
Three Rivers Community Foundation generously served as our fiscal sponsor in the early stages of our journey, allowing tax-deductible donations for our fundraising efforts before we attained our 501(c)3 status from the IRS. We're proud to announce that we have since achieved official 501(c)3 recognition, confirming MCCM's status as a non-profit organization.
MCCM is also a member of the Association of Children’s Museums, an international professional society supporting and advocating for children’s museums and their supporters.
The Founding Task Force looks forward to connecting and engaging the community in creating a space that inspires creativity, nurtures curiosity, highlights unique aspects of our community and region and helps children explore their possible futures.
